Protective Summer Hairstyles

Protective styles are an awesome way to be a lazy natural. While I try my best to stay on top of wash days, conditioning, and everything else that comes along with being a naturalista, it can be very time consuming. That being said, at the beginning of this summer I made a decision to wear my hair in protective styles all summer. I wanted to give my hair a break from heat styling, and give myself a break from having to twist my hair every night ๐Ÿ™„.

In doing this, Pinterest has become my go to for cute hairstyles. Having my hair in braids for the past month has saved me so much time in both my morning and nightly routines. I actually get ready for work and have time to spare to sit and watch tv! Versus struggling to get my natural hair just right, and having to fly out the door to work. After taking down my first set of braids, I noticed my hair was a bit fuller. Not too much extra length just yet, but I’m sure it will come in time. It has also been a relief to not have a big afro in the heat! While it’s super cute, and I love my fro, I hate a sweaty scalp๐Ÿ˜ท. I am planning to experiment a couple more times with braids, as well as a couple of molded ponytail styles!

What are you’re favorite protective styles? Let me know in the comments!

Took 5 hours but I loved it!

Only took 4 hours!

    • Search on Pinterest, “black girl short hair styles” you’ll get a good variety of styles! That was my go to when I did my big chop a couple of years back!

  1. I hear this a lot. I know so many ladies who want a break, especially when the temperatures rise. I have been a cosmetologist for like 14 years now and although I personally hate to do braids (it takes forever) I know how much of a time saver they can be. I have twin girls and they love to get the Senegalese twists, they last a long time and are still trendy. Some shops have like three or for braiders on the same head at once and get the entire set done in like 4 hours. Saves my fingers!!
