My Natural Hair Journey

Natural hair is making a big comeback. Curly afros, braids, twists, twist outs, and bantu knots are nothing short of beautiful in my eyes.
I am currently in a transitioning stage for the third time. The other two times I decided to go natural, or stop perming my hair, I did not have the will power to stay natural. Both times before I eventually went back to the perm. But, this time is different. I am approaching my 7th month of being perm free and I couldn’t be happier. Not only is my hair much healthier, but I have so many options when deciding how to wear it.
Although natural hair is not embraced by everyone, I see it as a symbol of pride. The current popularity of naturalistas reminds me of the Black Is Beautiful Movement during the 1960’s. This movement promoted self worth within African Americans and they were encouraged to embrace their natural beauty.
Many debates have been sparked as to if it is suitable to wear natural hear in a corporate setting. Personally, I don’t think anyone or anything should hinder your natural beauty.
Always remember Black IS Beautiful.
